Mølsteds Atelier
Former studio of the marine painter Christian Mølsted in Dragør's old town with a selection of his seascapes and local views – free admission.
About the museum
Christian Mølsted (1862–1930) grew up in the seafaring town of Dragør, where ships and the sea were part of everyday life, and began drawing ships early on. After the technical school in København, where he learned the basics of drawing, he remained true to a classical, academically influenced style of painting throughout his life. His clients included the Ministry of the Navy, captains, the royal household and high officials.
In 1891 Mølsted married and settled in his parents' house in Dragør. Most of his work was created in the studio there. In 1974 his daughters donated the studio together with an extensive collection of paintings to the Dragør Museum.
Today Museum Amager runs the small art museum. Besides well-known marine paintings, the walls feature scenes from Dragør and its surroundings; the space also conveys how Mølsted worked and which techniques he used to create his pictures.
