Egnssamlingen for Østvendsyssel
Volunteer-run local heritage collection in the village of Try near Dronninglund with a farm, forge, watchmaker's house, and old workshops.
About the museum
The Egnssamlingen for Østvendsyssel was founded in 1929 as Try Museum on the initiative of Frode Fogt, the head of the Try Højskole. Its foundation was about 2,000 objects on farming culture that the farm owner Jørgen Nørgaard (1862–1927) had gathered. In 1962 the museum received state recognition, from 1980 it belonged to the museum association in Østvendsyssel, and in 2011 it merged with the Vildmosemuseet.
In 2017 the collection lost its status as a state-recognized museum. An association was then founded, which took over all buildings and collections in 2018. Since then the museum has been run exclusively by volunteers and financed through admission, membership fees, and sponsors.
The museum grounds in Try between Dronninglund and Hjallerup include the Lille Knudsgård farmstead with an oak half-timbered farmhouse from 1835, a red brick cowshed from 1904, and a barn from the 19th century, as well as a forge, a watchmaker's house, and the former Husflidsskole (handicraft school). Several permanent exhibitions and working workshops show old crafts. On selected Sundays, activity days invite visitors to join in, for example with field work using horses and old tractors or with the potato harvest.
