Jacob Michelsens Gård
Small local history museum on an old farm in Aabenraa with a farmhouse, a bakehouse from 1876 and a listed garden.
About the museum
The farm was one of the four farms of the village of Kolstrup that are already mentioned in the Aabenraa land register of 1535; it is also recorded on Johannes Mejer's map from 1641. In 1847 it passed into the ownership of the Michelsen family, who lived here for generations. The bakehouse with a brick stone oven was built in 1876.
As early as 1958, a daughter of the family made the kitchen and living room accessible to visitors – the beginning of the small local history museum. It was donated by Anne-Helene Michelsen, the last resident from the family. Today it is run by the foundation Karen og Anne-Helene Michelsens Fond of 1995, supported by a circle of friends and volunteers.
On view are the farmhouse with old farm furniture, the Huggehus (woodshed) with tools from kitchen, stable, field and forest, a large textile collection and the listed garden. The farm is open mainly on the traditional baking weekends, when Sigtebrød (sifted-flour bread) and cake are baked in the stone oven, and on Wednesdays in July.
