Jollmands Gård
Restored Als-style hook farm in the village of Holm near Nordborg – one of the last of its kind in Denmark, with a bakehouse and old farm machinery.
About the museum
Jollmands Gaard is the oldest farm in the village of Holm on Nordals. The farm and family can be traced back to the 18th century; according to the parish register, the farm passed from father to son over ten generations. The last owners were the siblings Tinne and Peter Jollmand. The farm is a so-called Kroggård, a hook farm whose building layout resembles a fishhook. Typical of Als is the half-timbering with three panels in height and curved braces, whereas the rest of Denmark mostly built with two panels.
In 1997 Peter Jollmand bequeathed the property to a foundation, which also inherited his assets after his death in 1999. The aim was to save the by-then dilapidated farm and run it as a local agricultural museum; a friends' association was founded for this purpose in 1999. The reconstruction was based on building surveys by the Nationalmuseet from 1922, which had originally been made for moving the farm to the open-air museum in Brede. In 2001 parts of the complex were placed under heritage protection.
With a great deal of volunteer work and money from numerous foundations, the farm was rebuilt step by step by 2011. In 2015/16 a workshop and exhibition building was added for the farm's old tools and machines, and in 2017/18 the bakehouse was newly built. In September 2018 Holm celebrated the completion of the twenty years of work.
