Moskildvad
Childhood home of the Danish thinker Martinus in Sindal, furnished as around 1900 – visit with a tour by phone appointment.
About the museum
Martinus Thomsen (1890–1981) was born on August 11, 1890 on the small farm Moskildvad on the western edge of Sindal. The property belonged to his mother's half-brother; the future author of an extensive spiritual-philosophical body of work grew up here with foster parents in simple circumstances, attended the village school for only a few years and worked early on as a herd boy before beginning a dairy apprenticeship.
After its sale in 1923, the house was in other hands for decades. In 1954 Sam Zinglersen, a follower of Martinus, bought it for Martinus' 64th birthday. The architect Boe Seest drew the parental home in 1970 according to Martinus' own descriptions, and at the end of the 1980s the building was returned to its original condition.
On the 100th anniversary of Martinus' birth, Moskildvad opened on August 11, 1990 as a small memorial room and museum. The rooms are furnished as Martinus described and drew them around 1900. Visitors receive a tour of the house and, on request, can watch two films about his childhood in Sindal and about his life's work; there are also photos of old Sindal, books and information material. The surroundings invite walks.
