About the museum

The museum's beginnings go back to the 1969/70 school year: the teacher Falk Mikkelsen had his class at Ikærskolen collect old objects from the surrounding area, and from this school collection the Give Museum emerged in 1970. In 1984 it was renamed Give-Egnens Museum, and a museum association was founded at the same time; state recognition followed in 1991. Since 2023 the association-run museum has been called Museum Give.

The museum is based at Stenbrogård, a former heath farm on Donneruplundvej near the Midtjyske Motorvej. The buildings also house the Local History Archive of Give. The grounds around the building include a garden, an apple orchard, an allotment garden with a small house from 1937, the kilns of the Jydepotte potters from Vonge, and the museum forest.

In terms of content, the museum is devoted to the more recent cultural history of the western Vejle hinterland. The guiding idea is life "on the edge" between heath and farmland, between tradition and change. The permanent exhibitions lead to the Nygård farm around 1910, into a shopping street of the station town of Give, which grew after the railway connection of 1894, and into a classroom of a village school. Many stations invite visitors to touch, dress up, and try things out; during the holidays, activities for families are added.
