About the museum
Today the Kassari muuseumimaja is housed in the administrator’s house of Kassari manor, built of limestone. The Hiiumaa Muuseum began work here in 1967. Besides the exhibitions, the house contains the museum’s collection storage.
Around the museum lies a lush apple orchard and picnic area, where concerts and other events take place in summer. In the yard there is a memorial milk churn dedicated to Voldemar Panso and Lepa Anna, a double-sided bench dedicated to academician Ülo Kaevats, and the lifeboat of the ferry Estonia, which reached the coast of Hiiumaa in September 1994.
