About the museum
The Coastal People’s Museum is in an old school building in the coastal village of Pringi on the Viimsi peninsula. The museum tells the story of coastal life in Northern Estonia and the history of the coastal villages of the Viimsi peninsula, weaving together the way of life of the coastal people, historic architecture and fishing culture.
The museum’s predecessor was the Kirov Model Fishing Collective Farm Museum, founded in 1971. After the collective farm was reorganised, the Viimsi rural municipality government took over the collections in 1993, and the museum became the Viimsi Parish Museum. Today more than 13,000 museum objects are kept in the school building, of which nearly 7,000 are photographs and documents.
The museum organises exhibitions, events, educational and experience programmes, and also manages the Viimsi Open Air Museum and the Naissaare visitor centre.
