Tapa Muuseum

The Tapa Museum presents the history of the town and parish from its railway and military town period and its sausage town period to the von Fock manor family; admission is free.

About the museum

The Tapa Museum was opened to visitors as a municipal institution of the town on 10 June 1994. The town bought for the museum building a dilapidated residential house built in 1934 that belonged to the Negu family. The museum collects, stores and exhibits objects, photographs and documents connected with the time and culture history of Tapa Parish.

The permanent exhibition gives an overview of Tapa as a railway and military town and a sausage town. Visitors can also see what village life in Tapa was like, how industry, schools, churches and the fire brigade developed, how the town was governed, and who were Tapa’s last manor lords, the von Fock family. A separate theme is the Armoured Train Regiment. Since the beginning of 2020 the museum has belonged to the Tapa Parish Culture Centre, together with the Porkuni Limestone Museum, the Tapa Culture House, the Tamsalu Culture House and the Lehtse Culture House.
