About the museum
The Johan Pitka tubamuuseum (Johan Pitka Room Museum) opened on 28 June 2014 in the Jalgsema village house, in honour of Admiral Johan Pitka, who was born at Terasaug in Jalgsema village. It is located one kilometre from Pitka's childhood home at Ansomardi farm and the memorial site.
Two museum rooms are open to visitors. One room has an exhibition that reflects the life and childhood of Johan Pitka. Part of the exhibition consists of eight stands, “Vabadussõja hing” (The Spirit of the War of Independence), compiled by Tanel Lään. In the same room a life-size wax figure of Pitka can also be seen. The second room presents the activities of the Kaitseliit's Järva maleva (Järva district unit), founded by Pitka, from its early years to the present day.
The museum is looked after by the Seliküla-Jalgsema village society.
