About the museum
As its predecessor, the permanent exhibition “Lõuna-Eesti Ühistöö” was set up on 29 September 2000 in the house at Pikk tänav 16 in Valga; it showed the history of the security forces of South Estonia. The foundation was established by a decision of the Valga City Council on 13 June 2008. The museum manages a former military garrison and cooperates with the Kaitsevägi (Estonian Defence Forces), Kaitseliit (Defence League), Kaitsepolitsei (Internal Security Service), Politsei- ja Piirivalveamet (Police and Border Guard Board) and the Päästeteenistus (Rescue Service). Every year the international Valga militaarajaloo festival (Valga Military History Festival) is held.
