About the museum
Dalsbruks Bruksmuseum is a culture-historical museum whose first basic exhibition opened in 1983. The museum tells the story of the Dalsbruk ironworks, whose history goes back to 1686, when the first blast furnace was built on the site. The works community on Kimitoön grew up around the ironworks and shaped life in the area for several hundred years.
Today the museum comprises six buildings and 11 charcoal kilns. In the small Norrbacksstugorna, cottages, it shows how workers lived and worked in Dalsbruk: the cottages contain five interiors from the period 1890–1960. The museum's other buildings focus on the history of the ironworks and on the work at the works.
The museum is part of the Sagalund group and of the Sagalund children's culture centre. Families with children and children's groups are welcome, with a play room in the exhibition spaces, and the museum shop Butkan sells books, toys and handicrafts connected with the museum and the works environment.
