About the museum
Forngårdens museum is located in the Snappertuna church village in Raseborg. The museum was opened in 1958 by the Snappertuna fornminnesförening (Snappertuna Heritage Association) and shows how people lived and worked on an archipelago farmstead around the mid-19th century. The buildings come from the island of Halstö and have been moved to the museum grounds.
The museum consists of a main building, whose oldest parts date from the 18th century, and a loft, a storehouse, a food store, a fishing-net house, an outhouse, a barn and a smithy. The smithy is the newest addition: it was acquired by the Snappertuna agricultural association and inaugurated in 1998. Since 1977 Forngården has been part of the activities of Raseborg's museums.
From the museum, the beautiful Kärleksstigen (Love Path) leads through the forest to the ruins of medieval Raseborg Castle, a distance of about 500 metres.
