About the museum
Skarpkulla museum is owned and run by Pojo hembygdsförening r.f. (Pojo Local Heritage Association), founded in 1959 with volunteer effort. The museum was previously called the Gillesgården agricultural and local heritage museum. It is located in the village of Skarpkulla, about ten kilometres from Pojo centre, on Kungsvägen.
The oldest building of the museum is the dwelling house, the former main building of Skarpkulla Storgård Östergård under the Fiskarsbolaget. The house was probably built at the end of the 18th century and was bought by the local heritage association in 1964. The loft building comes from Lönnhammar in northern Pojo, the storehouse was moved from Brödtorp in 1988, and the statare cottage (statarstugan) from Nygård in 1983. There are also two halls from 1975 and 1987.
The collections tell mainly of farming and life in the Pojo area and comprise more than 3,200 objects. In the moped hall a unique moped collection is shown, with around fifty chainsaws, and since 2019 the permanent exhibition there has told of the moped’s path through 1960s Pojo. The local heritage association continues to develop the site, with a forge and a laavu, among other things.
