About the museum
The Heinävesi local heritage museum operates in an old parish granary, a loan granary on the church hill in Heinävesi beside the parish hall. The museum was founded by the Heinävesi-seura association, established in 1955, and it opened to the public on 13 August 1961 in connection with a local heritage day. Since 2002 the museum has belonged to the municipality of Heinävesi.
The museum’s collection comprises around 2,000 objects, the oldest of which date from 3000–1600 BC. The exhibition was renewed in 2021 and gives a picture of the history of Heinävesi and the life of its residents.
