About the museum
Helsinge hembygdsmuseum is located on Kyrkovägen next to Helsinge S:t Lars church, in the Helsinge church village in Vantaa, near the Tusbyleden road and Ring III. The museum is housed in a grain storehouse from 1825. It opened in September 1963 after several years of collecting and preparation, with a large public festival.
The collections comprise about a thousand objects that give a picture of people's lives in Helsinge 100–150 years ago. The lower floor contains, among other things, a farmer's cottage and a small schoolroom, and the upper floor has tools used in farming and by shoemakers, carpenters and smiths. There is also a figurehead and fishing nets, since Helsinge once had long sea shores. Equipment for making wool and linen yarn and textiles is on the staircase.
The Helsinge-Tusby ungdomsförbund rf (youth association) has run the museum for four decades, largely with volunteer efforts. The work includes both opening the museum and guiding visits, looking after the collections and the building, and raising funds.
