About the museum
Heureka is a Finnish science centre in Tikkurila, Vantaa, which began operating in 1989. Its roots lie at the University of Helsinki and in researchers who had visited science centres around the world; the initial impulse was the Fysiikka 82 exhibition, held in May 1982 at the Säätytalo. The Tiedekeskussäätiö (Science Centre Foundation) was established at the turn of 1983–1984, and Vantaa offered to host the science centre in 1984.
Heureka is a non-profit organisation serving the public good, and its operations are run by the Tiedekeskussäätiö (Science Centre Foundation). The core idea of the science centre is to bring the joy of discovery to everyone, and its name refers to the phrase “Olen löytänyt sen!” (“I have found it!”), which is said to have been uttered by Archimedes.
At Heureka, visitors explore science and technology through interactive exhibitions, the planetarium, public shows, learning programmes and events. In summer the outdoor area is home to the Tiedepuisto Galileit science park.
