About the museum
The museum operates in the old station building in Tikkurila, which is Finland's oldest brick railway station. The building was completed in 1862 and designed by the provincial architect Carl Albert Edelfelt.
The Tikkurila unit of the Vantaa City Museum was given the name Vantaan historian museo (Vantaa History Museum) on 1 September 2026. The new name was chosen from nearly 200 proposals, because the name Vantaan kaupunginmuseo had become unclear after a second publicly accessible unit, the Håkansbölen manor museum, opened in June 2026. Vantaan kaupunginmuseo remains the name of the whole museum organisation.
Until now Tikkurila has hosted only changing exhibitions. The first permanent exhibition on the history of the Vantaa region, presenting the past of the area over 10,000 years, opens to the public on 27 November 2026.
