About the museum
Villa Rulludd is a villa complex at Kaitaa, along the Espoo shore path. The villa was built in 1873 by the well-known member of the Diet, businessman, clergyman and schoolmaster Alfred Kihlman. Twenty years later his son, prosecutor Lorenzo Kihlman, built his own summer residence beside the house known as the Winter Villa. The villas were joined into one complex by a porch in 1908.
The combination represents the architecture of four different periods and is a rare surviving example of early villa architecture along the whole Uusimaa coast. The Kihlman family, known as cultural figures, spent their summers at Rulludd for six generations until 1980, when the villa passed into the ownership of the City of Espoo.
The villa museum is now located on the upper floor of the house. Visitors can get acquainted with villa life in the summer atmosphere of the first half of the 20th century. Upstairs there are, among other things, bedrooms and a photo album whose pictures are copies of photographs of the Kihlman family. The museum belongs to the museums of KAMU Espoon kaupunginmuseo (KAMU Espoo City Museum).

The villa is not step-free: there are at least four steps at the entrance, thresholds higher than 2 cm, and the museum is on the second floor of the old wooden villa with no lift. There is no accessible toilet or induction loop. From the parking area it is about 100 metres along a level sandy track to the villa door; in winter the track can be slippery. Drop-off vehicles can stop in front of the main door in the villa yard. The museum can also be explored with a mobile guide and an online exhibition. Guide dogs and assistance dogs are permitted; other dogs are allowed only in the yard, on a lead.
Kids & families
The upstairs bedrooms and the photo album also bring the everyday life of a summer villa close to children.
