About the museum
EMMA – Espoon modernin taiteen museo opened to the public on 13 October 2006. The City of Espoo had established the art museum foundation that runs the museum in 2002. The museum is located in Tapiola in the WeeGee building, which the architect Aarno Ruusuvuori designed in the 1960s as a printing plant for Weilin+Göös.
The exhibition space of about 6,000 square metres on the first and second floors makes EMMA the largest art museum in Finland by floor area. The museum's collections include the EMMA collection, Collection Kakkonen, the Saastamoinen Foundation art collection and the Tapio Wirkkala Rut Bryk Foundation collection.
The museum focuses on Finnish and international modernism, contemporary art and design. In front of the building there is a sculpture park with works from the museum's collections.
