About the museum
The story of Museo Leikki began in 1984, when a national toy collection for a future toy and play museum was launched on the initiative of social councillor Aira Heinänen, with the support of the Lasten Päivän Säätiö (Children's Day Foundation). The Linnanmäki toy and play museum opened in April 1996.
In 2020–2022 the museum was renewed: the focus shifted from the presentation of toys to the world of play more generally, and in autumn 2021 it was given the name Museo Leikki. The museum moved into a new building next to the WeeGee exhibition centre in Tapiola and reopened in its new premises in May 2022. The museum continues its co-operation with the Teatteri Hevosenkenkä theatre.
The museum has a permanent exhibition and a special exhibition, smaller pop-up exhibitions, and a permanent audience programme, which includes a Lego building workshop.
