About the museum
The Finnish Clock and Jewellery Museum Kruunu is the only museum in the Nordic countries specialising in clocks and jewellery. It previously operated under the name Suomen kellomuseo (Finnish Clock Museum). The museum's collections began to grow in 1944, when a watchmaking school was founded in Lahti and its teachers built up a teaching collection. When the school moved to Tapiola in Espoo in the 1950s, the collection moved with it.
To look after the collections, the Kellomuseosäätiö (Clock Museum Foundation) was established in the 1980s, and the actual museum opened on Opinkuja in Espoo. In 2006 the Clock Museum moved into the WeeGee exhibition centre building, where it remained until 2020. In 2021 the museum took jewellery into its collections, changed its name to Suomen kello- ja korumuseo Kruunu and moved to its present location on Ahertajantie.
Today the museum researches and preserves Finnish clock and jewellery culture and opens up its meanings through changing exhibitions, guided tours, workshops and events. The museum is part of the Tapiola museums and of Espoo's KULPS cultural trail.
