About the museum
The Herralankoski, or Leskelä, mill is the only surviving production plant of the semi-industrial era in Juuka. A mill has operated on the rapids since at least the 1880s, and the present mill dates from 1927. It ceased operating in the late 1950s.
The association Juuka-seura ry has owned the mill, the mill house and the mill sauna since 1977. The area houses a mill museum, which is open every year from Midsummer to the late part of August.
The mill was restored in 2013–2014 in the Mylly pyörimään (Mill Turning Again) project into a working water mill: the upper needle dam was restored, a wooden power conduit from the dam to the mill was built, and the mill’s turbine, power shaft and machinery were refurbished. At the same time the accessibility of the mill area was improved.
