About the museum
The main building of the Juuka parish museum is a loan granary from 1825, which represents the typical loan granaries of its time. The granaries of Pielisjärvi, Nurmes and Juuka were designed to be built from logs four fathoms long. Great care was taken to protect valuable grain during construction, which is visible in the double walls of the bins, the sturdy roof structure and the strong locks. The doors and their locks were made by the carpenter Tuomas Lari.
Until 2006 the plot belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Juuka, from which the association Juuka-seura ry rented it. In 2006 a plot sale transferred the plot to the ownership of Juuka-seura.
Besides the granary, the museum area has a storehouse, a threshing barn and, most recently, the Eerola dwelling house, which was moved from Rontsa, re-erected and restored as a LEADER project in 2010–2011.
