About the museum
The Kolin luontokeskus Ukko is located on the top of Koli, on Ylä-Kolintie. It presents Finland’s best-known national landscape, the hills of eastern Finland and traditional landscapes. The nature centre serves as the starting point of Koli National Park: here visitors get an overall picture of the area and advice on hiking at Koli and elsewhere in the North Karelia Biosphere Reserve.
The permanent exhibition Katse kansallismaisemaan (Gaze at the National Landscape) explores the geology, nature and culture of Koli National Park in depth. In the free Retkinäyttely (outdoor-pursuits exhibition) visitors can learn the basics of hiking and hiking etiquette. The nature centre also hosts changing art exhibitions.
The building houses hiking advice, a nature shop, hiking equipment rental, Café Koli, and meeting rooms, one of which is the 200-seat Vaarasali auditorium. The viewpoint at Ukko-Koli is a few hundred metres from the nature centre.
