About the museum
Korsnäs hembygdsmuseum is the oldest museum in the village. It consists of a farmhouse, a loft with a village shop and a small herb garden. Visitors can see how everyday life and work looked in the past, and the textile collection is particularly comprehensive.
The colourful Korsnäs sweaters (Korsnäströjor) have a set place in the collection. The sweater must contain red, and the other colours used are green, yellow, orange and sometimes blue and pink. In one of the rooms of the farmhouse there is a reconstructed wedding scene with a bridal costume that is, as far as possible, a copy of the preserved wedding dress of Maria Gustava Rofhök. The collection also contains bed linen, skirts, waistcoats and head cloths, as well as the Korsnäs costume, and in the porch loft there are tools and implements from yarn and weaving production.
In the farmhouse loft, an exhibition on seal hunting is shown, with a stuffed seal, lead guns (lodbössor) and other equipment. Seal hunting was for a long time an important livelihood along the coast. In summer 2026 the exhibition Utsmyckat på nytt (Decorated Anew) opened at the start of the season.
