About the museum
Eckerö Local Heritage Association bought the Labbas farm in 1964 from the Sandholm family. The Labbas homestead, Storby no. 6, has always belonged to the same family, and the present house was built in 1810 on Grunell hill.
On the ground floor of the main building are the veranda, a typical Åland storstuga with old fittings and utensils, a hall, and the bank museum, which opened in 1988. The bank museum is Åland's only one, and its fittings come from Åland's first bank, Sparbanken i Kvarnbo in Saltvik. The farm also has an old tailor's workshop.
On the upper floor is the captain's room with objects from the voyages of Captain Johan Ekblom. He came from Labbas and was the first Ålander to sail across the Atlantic, in 1865. Other objects connected with seafaring and sewing items are also displayed there. Labbas is often a meeting place for cultural events such as evenings of songs and poetry (vis- och diktaftnar) and film evenings, and the local heritage association organises the Postrodden and a Christmas market on the farm.
