Dånö hembygdsmuseum

Local heritage museum in an old pilot and fisherman’s croft beside a fjord-like bay on Dånö in Geta.

Opening hoursAdmission €5

About the museum

Dånö hembygdsmuseum (local heritage museum) lies beside a deep, fjord-like bay just by the road on Dånö in Geta. The museum shows how people lived in a typical pilot and fisherman’s croft in earlier times. Dånö became a pilots’ dwelling in the 18th century, and the house was home to two pilot families.

The last resident, Amanda Nordblom (1854–1927), died, and the house was auctioned off about 90 years ago. Two people with family roots on Dånö bought the house with its furniture in order to make it a museum. Lydia Holmberg and Emil Johnsson ran the museum for 40 years, until the Dånö Museum Association was formed in 1968.

The museum contains household objects, hand tools and fittings from the croft. Among the most notable objects are a figurehead and a cupboard from the 18th century, as well as a large collection of old fishing and farming tools.
