About the museum
The exhibitions of the Lahti Historical Museum have been on display in Lahti’s former manor since 1968. The pink main building, designed by the architect Hjalmar Åberg, was completed in 1898 as the home of the family of Captain August Fellman. The Fellmans had moved to Lahti in 1868, and August Fellman bought the manor’s cavalry farm (ratsutila).
The museum’s main exhibition, Hyvä paikka (A Good Place), opened in June 2024. It tells of the history of everyday life in Päijät-Häme from the time after the Ice Age to the present day, and its themes are community, the individual, the environment and everyday life. On the third floor is the Asehuone (Armoury), which displays weapons from different periods, from sabres to handguns.
The museum’s collections include, among other things, a collection deposited in Lahti by the Vyborg Historical Museum. The museum belongs to the Lahti museums, and it is maintained by the City of Lahti.
