About the museum
The Lavia local heritage museum is part of the Satakunta Museum of the City of Pori. It operates in the loan granary storehouse, completed in 1853 next to Lavia church. The building is part of the main street of Lavia church village, which is a nationally significant built cultural environment.
The Lavian museo- ja kotiseutuyhdistys (Lavia Museum and Local Heritage Association) was founded in 1949, and the municipality gave it the storehouse premises in 1954. Museum activities and collecting began in 1957. Lavia merged into Pori in the 2015 municipal merger, after which the museum was transferred to the Satakunta Museum.
The collection consists mainly of farming and household tools. Also on display are objects related to fishing, hunting and church life, as well as a stone and mineral collection donated by the local enthusiast Antti Kamppi, which includes lavialiitti, a rock type named after Lavia.
