About the museum
Building of the Myllymäki crofter museum area began in the early 1970s, when the then Kiikoinen museum association bought the residential building of the Myllymäki farm, built in the 1830s, from Kuorsumaa for use as a local heritage house. Several buildings have since been moved to the site, the most culturally valuable of which is the granary of the Heikkilä croft in Kuorsumaa, which according to experts dates from the 1700s.
The closed yard (umpipiha) of the croft consists of the luhti (granary), a cowshed, a ratashuone, a smoke sauna, the weaver's room (kankurin pirtti) moved from Amanda Viitasen's place in Kuorsumaa, a wood shed, a lehtilato (leaf barn), a drying barn (riihi) and a smithy. The local heritage house displays, among other things, carpenter's tools. The main building, Myllymäki croft, was renovated with EU project funds.
The association that maintains the area organises events at the croft and the museum area, such as song and poetry evenings and exhibitions. During events, the public can explore the whole crofter museum area and the museum's collections.
