About the museum
The main building of the Lohtaja local heritage museum originally stood at the Luoma farm in Toholampi, from which it was bought in 1860 to serve as the farmhands' house of the curate (kappalainen) of Lohtaja. In 1953 the Lohtaja parish sold the farmhands' house to the Lohtaja Local Heritage Association for museum use. The oldest building in the museum area dates from 1698 and is believed to be the oldest log granary in Central Ostrobothnia.
The objects, mainly from the 1800s, were collected in the Lohtaja area. Besides the main building, the yard has a red soldier's croft, which presents the life of a soldier of the ruote-based army of the Swedish era and his family, as well as a windmill, an iron furnace (rautamasuuni) and a storehouse.
The collection contains more than two thousand objects, including an offering box, shackles and a board with an angel motif from the old Lohtaja church. The museum belongs to the museum sites of the K. H. Renlund Museum and is located in Lohtaja, Kokkola, about 40 kilometres from the city centre.
