About the museum

The Toivosen Eläinpuisto ja talonpojanmuseo is located in Kälviä beside the E8 road, about ten kilometres from the city of Kokkola. The museum village currently consists of 50 separate buildings and holds more than 12,500 objects. The village is constantly expanding, and its aim is to show life in a typical Central Ostrobothnian rural village in the first half of the last century.

In summer the museum site holds work demonstrations that follow old peasant traditions, as well as various theme exhibitions. The site has a children's play area, old cars and tractors, and an exhibition area with play cottages and a toy shop; children can play in some of the cottages.

The animal park has goats, sheep, pigs, hens, roosters, cats and dogs with their young in a traditional setting. The site has a craft and gift shop, which is open daily from 12:00 to 18:00 and can be entered without an admission fee.
