About the museum
The Padasjoki local heritage museum is also known as the storehouse museum (makasiinimuseo). It operates in the parish storehouse built in 1850 on the grounds of Saksala manor, and has been open to the public since 1956. The museum is maintained by Padasjoki-Seura ry, founded in 1955.
The two-storey museum presents everyday life at the end of the 19th century, such as cooking, handicrafts, hunting, schooling and farming, as well as old trades such as the work of the tailor, the carpenter and the shoemaker. On the ground floor there is a café, run by changing local entrepreneurs.
