About the museum
The museum area is run by the Asikkalan Kotiseutuyhdistys (Asikkala Local Heritage Association), founded in 1954, which belongs to the Finnish Local Heritage Federation. The main building of the farmhouse museum is a peasant house of the paritupa (double-room) type from 1786, which came from Vähä-Hanskala in the village of Pulkkila and was moved to the museum area in 1976. The farmyard also includes, for example, a luhti barn (luhtiaitta) from the 18th century, a smoke sauna, a grain barn, a horse stable, a hay barn and a threshing barn with a horse gin (hevoskierto).
The former parsonage’s stone cowshed houses old horse-drawn vehicles. On the church hill, the parish’s old grain warehouse from 1850 contains an object collection, and a small exhibition in the former archive building tells of archaeological finds. The horse stable houses the collection of birch-bark craftsman Erkki Pekkarinen.
