About the museum
Simoniemi village and Simonkylä represent the coastal village settlement of the Bothnian Bay (Perämeri), where, alongside farming, sea fishing has been an important livelihood. The Pahnila museum is located in the beautiful seaside scenery of Simonkylä, where a large stock of old buildings has been preserved.
Of the Pahnila buildings, which stand in their original location, the oldest date from the late 19th century. The yellow residential building is reached through a mutterikuisti (porch). The square yard complex includes a long cowshed building, a cart and shed building, and a two-storey stable building, on whose sides there was a milk room. Further away, a smoke sauna and a threshing-barn complex (riihikartano) complete the yard.
The museum has a large amount of the house’s original objects on display.
