About the museum
The Parikkalan kotiseutumuseo is located in the village centre of Parikkala, next to the old kunnantupa (municipal hall), completed in 1834. The museum rooms are in Hauta-Olli’s cottage, which holds farm objects from the early 20th century.
The cottage’s main room (tupa) is furnished like an early 20th-century country farmhouse, with a dining table and crockery. The bedroom (kamari) contains an exhibition on the history of Parikkala, and a separate room holds wooden farm objects from the late 1800s and early 1900s, such as churns, wooden tubs, sickles and scythes.
In the yard of the old kunnantupa is also the Parikkalan meijerimuseo (Parikkala Dairy Museum). The kunnantupa houses the Parikkalan Perinne- ja taitoyhdistys Käspaikka ry (Parikkala Heritage and Crafts Association Käspaikka), whose opening hours also determine when the local heritage museum is open.
