About the museum
The Pöljä local heritage museum presents the history of Siilinjärvi and the farming and rural life of North Savo from the 19th century to the 1930s. The museum yard on the shore of Pöljänjärvi is surrounded by seven buildings that form a small North Savo farmyard from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The savutupa (smoke cabin) shows what life was like before electricity. The museum is maintained by the cultural services of the Municipality of Siilinjärvi, which also looks after the museum’s object and photograph collections. The museum accepts donations on a case-by-case basis. The premises of the heritage farmhouse (perinnetalo) can be rented for events.

The yard is grassy and uneven, the thresholds of the buildings are high, and some doors are low. A removable ramp is available, for example, for the smoke cabin. A path leads to the heritage farmhouse, and the toilet space in the house has been expanded.
