About the museum
The Pohjois-Savon palomuseo (North Savo Fire Museum) is a local specialist museum of fire and rescue services maintained by the North Savo Rescue Department. The museum opened in 2001 and has preserved objects, photographs and stories about the history of the county’s fire stations and fire brigades.
In September 2024 the museum opened in new, modern premises at the Neulamäki rescue station in Kuopio. The centre of the basic exhibition is firefighters’ work clothing and equipment, from large vehicles to a small torch. Most of the collection is old equipment of the Kuopio fire brigade and the North Savo Rescue Department, but there is also material from other stations in the county and from the Kuopio VPK (volunteer fire brigade).
In the museum visitors can try virtual firefighting, and among the most popular exhibits is a restored children’s fire engine. The presenters are members of Kuopion paloveteraanit ry (Kuopio Fire Veterans’ Association).

The museum is reached from the access junction on the Neulamäentie side. The junction on Volttikatu is intended for emergency vehicles only.
