About the museum
The Polvijärven talomuseo is located on Museomäki in the church village of Polvijärvi. Most of the buildings in the yard come from Lappalanmäki in Kinahmo village. The main building, which is the birthplace of the writer Seppo Lappalainen, was moved to the open-air museum area in 1965, and other buildings were brought in afterwards. A memorial plaque to Lappalainen is on the wall of the main building.
The museum opened on 1 August 1971. The buildings in the yard depict a Polvijärvi farmhouse of the late 1800s and early 1900s with its outbuildings and objects. Besides the main building, the site has storehouses, a forge, a threshing barn (riihi) and a windmill.
The museum activities and the maintenance of the museums are the responsibility of Polvijärvi-Seura ry.
