About the museum
The Ranua parsonage was built in the early 20th century. It has been restored to match the period when Ilmari Salonen, Ranua’s long-serving vicar, lived there. The museum tells of everyday life in a rural parsonage in the 1930s and 1940s.
The parsonage rooms include the office (kanslia), the hall (sali), the bishop’s room (piispanhuone), a bedroom, the chamber (kamari), the dining room and the kitchen. In the attic is the parish museum (pitäjämuseo), which presents the history of Ranua: agriculture, Stone Age objects found in the area, and traditional crafts.
The museum has an audio drama trail, “Lempi asuu pappilassa” (Lempi Lives in the Parsonage), which is listened to with a smartphone and headphones. There are also videos of the museum on the emuseo.fi service.
