About the museum
The local heritage museum Sibbesgården is located in Gesterby, one of Sibbo's oldest villages. The museum's nine old log houses have been moved here from different parts of the parish, and with their furnishings they tell of the hard and simple life of the past. The Sibbo local heritage association maintains the local heritage collection and arranges exhibitions and events in summer.
The main building, Fram-Martis, was built in 1787 and bought by the local heritage association in 1924. It first served as a temporary local heritage museum on its original site, and in 1939 it was moved to Sibbesgården, where it was given the appearance and furnishings of a farmstead from the late 18th century. Matbacka from 1804 was the first building moved to the area, in 1937, and it gives a faithful picture of a farm home from the 19th century.
Among the other buildings are Fafasbodan from 1868, with a permanent exhibition on lye-washing (byktvätt) in past times; Donabackarian, an old threshing house where grain was dried and threshed with flails; and Fägårdslidret, which is said to be the only surviving building of its kind in Eastern Uusimaa (Östnyland). In the middle of the farmyard lies Nilsfafa's lyfton, a 252 kg stone.
