About the museum
The museum building is an old timber parish granary, built in 1771 on the vicarage land. Grain was stored there, and in years of crop failure it could be lent out. The building’s double walls, grain silos with adjustable openings, sack hoist, measuring vessels and iron-clad floors still show what it was used for.
The granary was repaired and moved in 1833 to Tegelbacken, where the new Sipoo church now stands, and it was extended in 1848. In 1885 it was moved to its present site near the church. The lending of grain ended in 1970.
The agricultural museum opened in 1983 and is run by Sibbo hembygdsförening (Sipoo local heritage society). The collection includes tools and machines used in the different stages of the farming year before the tractor and motor-driven machines replaced the horse. The exhibition was renewed and reopened in 2011.
