About the museum
Skrivarhemmet Strömmen is the home of the writer Anni Blomqvist at Västra Simskäla in Vårdö. She was loved by generations of readers thanks to the novel character Stormskärs Maja and her stories about life in the Åland archipelago. In the 1970s the novel became a popular television film directed by Åke Lindman, and a new film adaptation by Tiina Lymi had its cinema premiere in January 2024.
Anni Blomqvist was committed to social issues, especially concerning her home island of Simskäla in the northern archipelago. After her death, the Ålands kulturstiftelse (Åland Cultural Foundation) took over the home in accordance with her will and maintains it as a writer's residence and museum.
