About the museum
The museum focuses on Åland shipping, with steam-powered and motor ships from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. The collections include paintings, photographs and literature, as well as equipment and advertising material. Many objects come from engine rooms, and there is a large collection of maritime literature, posters of large diesel engines and drawings of many ships.
Ferry traffic and the first ferries hold an important place in the museum, and objects from Algots varv (Algot's shipyard) have a corner of their own. The collections also include a couple of veteran tractors from 1937–1964. Old veteran engines can be run on request, and a telegraph, an engine-room alarm system and a steam engine are on display.
