About the museum
The task of the Finnish Horse Sports Museum is to preserve, archive, research and publish the history of Finnish horse sports. The museum building is the atmospheric grain storehouse of the Kartanonkylä manor, dating from the late 18th century. Siittolanmäki has been a stable and horse area since the 1930s, and the museum is surrounded by the cultural landscape of the Loimijoki valley with its horse pastures.
The storehouse holds the archive of Suomen Hippos (Finnish Hippos association) as well as the museum’s changing exhibitions. The exhibition takes visitors into the world of riding and harness racing over the last century. Part of the exhibition is on display in the Oppilasruokala officers’ club. The canteen opened in 1933 alongside the riding school of the Cavalry Brigade, and visitors can also see highlights of the museum’s art collection there.
The museum belongs to the area of the Ypäjä Equine Institute (Ypäjän Hevosopisto) on Siittolanmäki.
