About the museum
Kauppilan perinnetila presents a peasant farm environment whose roots reach back to the 17th century. Over the course of history the farm belonged to several cavalry officers (ratsumestari). In 1761 the farm was divided into Ali-Kauppila and Ylä-Kauppila. Life at Kauppila continued until the 1960s.
The Humppila municipality bought the buildings and a small plot of land on 1 June 1978 and still owns them. The heritage farm includes the main building, estimated to date from the 1880s, as well as a cowshed, a granary and a windmill. The granary was moved to its present site in 1980 by the Humppila Lions Club. The mamsellimylly (mamsell mill) was built at Murro farm in 1928–1929 and brought to Kauppila in the 1980s as a donation.
Today the farm is an open peasant environment where visitors can get to know everyday life in past times. The farm is also used for parties and events, and Humppila Days (Humppila-päivät) are celebrated there in summer.
