About the museum
The museum is run by a private foundation, the Suomen Ilmavoimamuseosäätiö sr (Finnish Air Force Museum Foundation). The foundation’s board includes representatives of, among others, the Air Force, Finavia, the City of Jyväskylä, the University of Jyväskylä and Central Finland.
The main exhibition tells the history of Finnish aviation from the 1910s to the present day, and it has four cockpits in which visitors can sit. The Air Force communications exhibition includes an old communications centre with its Morse equipment and radios, and the permanent art exhibition has aviation paintings by Antti Salminen. The museum also has flight simulators, and the archive and library are open to researchers.
