About the museum
The oldest building of the museum is the Laukaa granary from 1860. The storehouse was established to lend grain collected as taxes when needed, for example after a misfortune. The Manttaali community (manttaalikunta) handed the building over in 1954 to the Old Laukaa Local Heritage Association for use as a museum.
Other buildings have been moved into the yard: the ruotumies’ barn (ruotumiehen aitta) in 1959, a food storehouse in 1963 and a clothing storehouse in 1967. A grain barn with its objects was donated to the museum in 1977. The windmill was originally built in 1883 and donated to the museum in 1956. The threshing barn came to the yard in 1997.
On the edge of the Laukaa harbour area there is also a church-boat shed (kirkkoveneen talas) with church boats. The acquisition of the church boat began in 1954, and the shed for storing the boat was completed in summer 1956.
