About the museum
Finland’s smallest shop museum was set up on the family farm of Minna and Kari Järvinen, collectors of old objects, at Skinnarby in Loviisa. The couple bought the property in 2009, and the museum opened in 2016, inspired by a visit to the shop museum in Kouvola. The plot has had a shop since the late 19th century, and the present shop building was completed in 1958. The shopkeeper ran the shop until the 1980s.
The museum’s objects date mainly from the 1950s and 1960s, with some products from the 1970s as well. A display case shows goods from the wartime 1940s. Only the 1960s sales counter and a few beer and Jo-Jo advertisements have survived from the original shop; most of the collection was acquired at flea markets or received as donations.
The museum is reached through the garden. In the same farmyard is the Villi Kanala shop, which sells recycled and vintage products for the home and garden.
